Actually, Luke was a physician and he was part of the 12 disciples. Paul came later on in the book of Acts.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were all disciples of Jesus and they all saw Him differently.

Matthew saw Jesus as a King, Mark saw Him as a Servant, Luke saw him as the Son of Man, and John saw His Divinity.

The book of Acts was the aftermath of Jesus being resurrected. It was time for Him to go sit on the right hand of His Father and He promised them a Comforter that would come after He left. Acts 2 describes their tarrying for the comforter and the preaching of the gospel, or good news, of Jesus. It also tells of the different cities that they went to, healings, deliverance, and salvation. Things that we're supposed to be doing now.
