Discuss Bible Scripture > What is the difference between an oath and a vow?
HELLO EVA, I HAVE NOT READ THE WORD OATH IN THE BIBLE, NOT SAYING IT IS NOT THERE, BUT I KNOW FOR FACT THE WORD VOW IS IN THERE. SO THE DIFFERENCE TO ME IS WHEN A VOW IS BEING MADE IT IS TO GOD, BUT AN OATH IS TO ABIDE BY WHAT THE PEOPLE WANTS AND HOW POLITICS ARE FOR US TO LIVE BY HERE ON EARTH. THAT IS THE WAY I FEEL. I STAND TO BE CLEARED IF I AM WRONG.
Well I looked up Oath and Vow in my Holman Bible Dictionary and it reads as followed :
Oath -Statements by which a person promises or guarantees that a vow will be kept or that a statement is,In fact, true.
Vow-Voluntary expressions of devotion usually fulfiled after some condition had been met.
HELLO, IT IS I ANITA, IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW THE DIFFERANCE, START READING IN GENESIS THROUGH OUT THE OLD TESTIMENT,PSALMS,MATTHEW, MARK, AND LUKE, PROVERBS. I DID RESEARCH TO SEE, AND THOSE TWO WORDS ARE CLOSELY FITTED. HAPPY READING!!!!!!!!!!
james 5:12 say we are not to take an oath or swear by heaven or earth.
